What Is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is the title given to minimally invasive surgeries that improve the appearance of the patient’s ears. While Otoplasty can refer to several different procedures, in general the term is applied to surgeries that change the shape, size, or position of the ears.

Some common ear aesthetic issues addressed by Otoplasty include ears that stick out too far from the head, ears that are oversized when compared to the patient’s head, and any dissatisfaction the patient has with previous ear procedures. Otoplasty also makes sure both ears are symmetrical, treating both ears to make sure they are of identical size, shape, and positioning.

What to Expect From My Otoplasty Procedure:

Otoplasty is a quick procedure that leaves little to no noticeable scars.

Dr. Cabin will begin the procedure by making small incisions on the back of the ears or hidden in the inner crease of the ears, choosing the location that will best hide any scars. Once the small incision is made, Dr. Cabin will remove any unneeded skin and cartilage in the ear, as well as move existing cartilage in the ear to get your ears into the proper position. Dr. Cabin will then stitch up the incision, with the entire procedure taking approximately two hours.
